So I beleive I’ve cracked it…. well for now anyway lol
We have a lot of social networks to interact with, but dont have the time to manage them all.
I wanted to link our WordPress blog with our Facebook company page, Twitter, LinkedIn and my facebook personal page.
I took the idea of Home Bases and outposts from someone elses research, and added ‘streaming’
Home Base: your blog, you have full ownership and control of its content without censorship or advertising. for this I like WordPress.
Outposts which are down stream: Places to interact “sociably” with others, little control but lots of interaction. Twitter, LinkedIn Facebook Pages and Facebook profiles. (But no way to get facebook groups working yet!)
So I designed a downstream system to flow data along from our blog to the rest of the network allowing interaction at the correct level to be disseminated down through the network. The way to work this is through facebook connect apps and an amazing site http://ping.fm
1 = Our WordPress feeds ping.fm with its content through the a wordpress plugin Shorten2Ping
then Ping.fm feeds this data downstream with its images and content nicely presented to company FaceBook Page and my personal Facebook Profile. (there is no current working way to get this data to a facebook group)
2 = The Facebook Page then feeds its new content downstream to Twitter using facebooks own connect app between facebook and twitter http://www.facebook.com/twitter/
3 = Twitter then feeds its content further down stream to LinkedIn via LinkedIn’s own connect app, go here to set it up https://www.linkedin.com/secure/settings?twitterSettings . This also connection is bi directional so if you update either linked in or twitter they will update each other.
Update: change your twitter LinkedIn setting to control your incoming twitter feeds use the hash tag #in to only allow tweets that contain #in. This allows for control of your twitter traffic down stream.
4 = Finally for the extra control i’ve added the ability for Twitter to feed back to my personal Facebook Profile, using http://apps.facebook.com/selectivetwitter/ which only pulls in Tweets which have the code #fb at the end of them.
With this set up you can control where and at what level you would like to interact with your networks.
High Level – Your Blog = Post on your own blog as part of your own website.
This is then passed down through the entire network, Facbook Page, Twitter, LinkedIn (and even to your own personal profile if you add #fb at the end of the post)
Mid Level – Facebook Page = Post on your own Facebook Page
This data is only passed downstream to lesser networks, Twitter and LinkedIn and back to your facebook profile if you use #fb
Low Level – Twitter/LinkedIn = Post to your companies twitter/LinkedIn account
This will only post to your companies twitter or LinkedIn accounts and they will bi directionally update, add the #fb code to update your own personal profile if you really want to.
Personal Level – Your profile = Post on your own personal profile…. and it will go no further and not connect to the rest of the network.
